ABS-CBN soars high on primetime TV.

More households in the Philippines tune in to ABS-CBN to be entertained and informed especially when TV levels peak at its highest during primetime from 6 PM to 12 midnight.

Data from Kantar Media showed that ABS-CBN remains to be the number one TV network with a national audience share of 43 percent in August primetime or a whopping 13-point lead over GMA’s 30 percent.

Advertisers, which invest majority of their TV ad spending on primetime, look at the TV ratings and audience shares of programs and TV networks to place their TV commercials in order to reach more households as frequently and efficiently as possible.

ABS-CBN programs secured 13 out of the top 15 most-watched programs in the country, making it the top choice for advertisers to put their advertising budget.

The multi-awarded and longest running drama anthology in Asia “MMK” (33.7%) hosted by ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio took the top spot followed by weekday top-rater “100 Days to Heaven” (31%) and the recently concluded top-caliber action-drama series “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” (30.9%).

“TV Patrol” also ruled all newscasts in the country and secured the sixth spot with an average national rating of 28.6% as compared to its rival “24 Oras” with only 19.5%.
Newly premiered programs “My Binondo Girl” (28%), “Junior Masterchef Pinoy Edition” (27.8%), and “Maria La Del Barrio” (22.6%) also fared well on its pilot airings and instantly rose to ranks of the monthly top 15.

Other Kapamilya programs in top 15 most-watched programs nationwide for August are “Pilipinas Got Talent (Sunday)” (29.5%), Pilipinas Got Talent (Saturday)” (28.6%), “Guns and Roses” (27%), “Rated K” (26.3%), “Mula sa Puso” (23.5%), and “Junior Masterchef Pinoy Edition: The Appetizer” (22.9).
ABS-CBN obtained a national TV audience share of 36% in August, higher than GMA’s 35%.

Kantar Media has 22 TV networks, ad agencies, and pan-regional networks subscribing to its ratings services. Among its current subscribers are ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, Adformatix, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann, and Wellmade Manufacturing Corporation. They also include pan-regional networks likes CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, and Sony Pictures Television International.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.

ABS-CBN registered a consolidated net income of P976 million in the first three months of 2011, while GMA Network reported a P534 million net income in the same period.

ABS-CBN’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization or EBITDA hit P2.1 billion in the first quarter of 2011 while GMA Network’s EBITDA was P926 million. ABS-CBN delivered consolidated revenues of P6.6 billion from advertising and consumer sales.

On August 28, 2011 a “celebration” is going to happen!

As a prelude to National Heroes Day, Choose Philippines, the world’s first ever social network where you can share and post your discoveries around the Philippines, will launch its music video “Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas” on “ASAP Rocks”, the top-rated variety show of ABS-CBN.

The Choose Philippines music video will features its theme song, “Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas” as sung by artists Angeline Quinto and Vince Bueno. The song was written by Robert Labayen, of “Bro Star ng Pasko” fame.

Choose Philippines (www.choosephils.com) aims to feature the undiscovered Philippines by showcasing travel destinations, regional cuisine, local culture and the colorful fiestas and festivals. There is also an active community page on Facebook that has gathered more than 220,500 “likes” in less than a year and still growing rapidly every day.

“Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas” is a reminder of the many reasons to be proud of the Philippines. The music video not only captures the vibrant colors of the islands but is also a call to action for every Filipino to proudly share the beauty of the Philippines to the world.

The website only went live last April 15 but it has already generated hundreds of photos and articles from Filipinos in various regions and from all over the world.

After their success in ABS-CBN’s 2011 Summer Station ID Jingle, Angeline Quinto and Vincent Bueno are once again reunited for the Choose Philippines theme song.

Only 21, Angeline Quinto exemplifies the Filipino penchant for hard work and overcoming adversity. The perseverance of “Star Power: The Search for the Next Pop Superstar” grand winner is definitely paying off. Angeline just returned from her US Tour with Sharon Cuneta and had her solo concert at the SM Sky Dome.

Vince Bueno is the face of a new generation of Pinoys who are born and raised overseas yet have decided to rediscover their roots in their homeland. Born in Vienna, Vince made a name for himself in Austria by being the grand champion of “Musical! Die Show!” yet chose to continue his career here in the Philippines.

The lyrics for “Piliin Mo…” were written by Robert Labayen, the vice president of ABS-CBN’s Creative Communications Management (CCM). He is the man behind many Station IDs, the most recent being the “BidaBest sa Tag-Araw” 2011 Summer ID as well many memorable advertising campaigns.

Choose Philippines is all about going out there, discover new things and have fun while doing it!

Choose Philippines is encouraging Filipino residents and our foreign visitors to register on the website (it’s easy and it’s FREE!) and share their experiences.

We would love to hear about their travels, adventures and misadventures in their very own words: Where did they go? What can we expect (scary insects, tidal waves, the best places to eat, etc)? What do we need to bring (sandals instead of shoes, anti-mosquito lotion, etc)? How to get there and how much? Also a bit of trivia and local flavor about the place would be fantastic!

We also invite Choose Philippines users to email us their beautiful photos (high-resolution would be best!) and a short “caption-like” article about these images.

Story and photo contributions can be emailed to choosephils@gmail.com.

And please “like” our fan page “Choose Philippines” on Facebook. Invite as many of your friends to do the same! Just by doing this you are already making a difference for our country! Choose us! Choose Philippines!

According to former Senator Jovito Salonga, Ninoy Aquino was the greatest president we never had.

And it’s true. As we are celebrating Ninoy’s 28th death anniversary today, August 21, we will remember once more what he did to restore democracy in our country.

This year, his son Noynoy Aquino through presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda in a statement said: “May the Filipino people never forget him and the many others who fought for the restoration of our democracy, and may future generations continue to hold dear the example Ninoy Aquino set for us through his life, his struggles, and his sacrifice.”

Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr.(November 27, 1932 – August 21, 1983) was a Filipino Senator and a former Governor of Tarlac. Together with Gerry Roxas and Jovito Salonga, they formed the leadership of the opposition to the Marcos regime in the years leading to the imposition of martial law in the Philippines.

In 1973 he was arrested and incarcerated for 7 years, but was allowed to depart for the United States to seek medical treatment after he suffered a heart attack in 1980.

In 1983, Aquino met his demise at the Manila International Airport when he returned to the Philippines despite threat that he will be assassinated. This courageous act has awakened the political awareness of Filipinos to fight for freedom against the dictatorship of Ferdinand E. Marcos. Millions lined up the streets to pay their last respect to Ninoy.

Inspired by the heroic act of Ninoy, the Filipinos came in full force on February 25, 1986 to end the dictatorship of Marcos once and for all. Dubbed as the “People Power Revolution,” it was recognized as a worldwide phenomenon that inspired other countries as well.

Manila International Airport has been renamed Ninoy Aquino International Airport in his honor. The anniversary of his death is a national holiday in the Philippines, now known as the Ninoy Aquino Day.

The Koreanovela that received the most trophies in the 2010 SBS Drama Awards hits primetime beginning this Monday.

“Big Thing” stars Ko Hyun Jung, who portrayed Lady Mishil in Queen Seon Deok. This time, however, she is no longer the villain but is now the main protagonist of the story.

Kwon Sang Woo, who is popularly known as Cholo in Stairway to Heaven, also makes a comeback and plays as a prosecutor named Edward Ha.

The story of “Big Thing” tells of Maureen’s (Ko Hyun Jung) rise to power as the first female president of South Korea. She started as a TV announcer who protested against the government because of her husband’s death in the hands of terrorists.

Two men aid her to succeed in politics: Edward, her friend who secretly loves her; and Victor Kang (Cha In Pyo), the congressman who urged her to run for president for his own ambitions.

Can Maureen survive the difficult and sometimes dirty world of politics? Whom should she trust? Is there a room for love in her life — both as a single mom and as a head of state?

Big Thing promises a highly interesting and relatable plot to the Filipino people. After having two female presidents, Filipinos will definitely want to know the ins and outs of politics from a strong woman’s point of view.

GMA-7's hottest teen stars are set to conquer the hearts of moviegoers as they star in the upcoming movie, Tween Academy: Class of 2012 by GMA Films.

Directed by Mark Reyes, the movie follows an entirely different storyline from the hit TV series and features a new set of characters, each with a unique story to bring.

The movie stars GMA Tweens Barbie Forteza, Joshua Dionisio, Jake Vargas, Bea Binene, Lexi Fernandez, Louise delos Reyes, Alden Richards, Kristoffer Martin, Joyce Ching and Derrick Monasterio. Also in the cast is Elmo Magalona.

Barbie Forteza is Kara, a cosplayer and online retailer of collectible toys. Naturally resourceful, she uses her techie skills to help her mom make ends meet for their family.

Joshua Dionisio plays a geeky toy collector, Robin. He spends most of his time at their family-owned computer shop, while doing other student’s computer projects to earn extra income. His liking of comic books and collectible toys will lead him closer to Kara.

Elmo Magalona is Enzo, the Mr. Fix-It. Perceived as an introvert, he would rather spend time with his gadgets or his two best friends Kara and George.

Bea Binene is George the boyish friend of Enzo and Kara. Caught up in the “bestfriend syndrome”, she tries to hide her feelings for her best friend enemy and instead, helps him get closer to Chloe.

Lexi Fernandez is Chloe, the typical spoiled rich girl, But underneath her popular school girl facade, Chloe faces issues concerning her weight. She attracts many guys, including Jeremy.

Jake Vargas is Jeremy or Jepoy, the group’s resident rocker. He is head-over-heels with Chloe and tries to get closer to her through his best friend George. In the end, he just might realize that he is chasing the wrong girl.

Louise delos Reyes is high school sweetheart Jessamine or Jess. She belongs to a poor family but hides this from her circle of friends. She pretends to be rich like her barkada as she desperately wants to be in the “in crowd” with Chloe.

Alden Richards is Christian, the high school heartthrob. Despite his good looks and popularity in school, Christian is a down-to-earth and friendly person. He is close friends with Robin and he will fall in love with Jess.

Kristoffer Martin is happy-go-lucky Diego. He carries a devil-may-care attitude, carelessly engaging in one fight after another. He is inseparable from his scooter and has a girlfriend named Ashlee.

Joyce Ching is Ashlee, a diligent working student. She juggles her time between school and work, leaving her almost always stressed out. She is a good influence to her boyfriend Diego.

And finally, Derrick Monasterio is Maximo, the resident school bully. He puts on a strong front but is actually a coward inside. He likes to pick on George and Enzo.

Get to see all of them when the movie opens this August.

Just talked to a couple of folks who have close relationship with Toshiba that the company will be opening a local office in the Philippines by August this year.

Currently, Tricom is the one that’s representing Toshiba in the Philippines (they’re the ones that handle local product launches and send out review units). We always have to refer to Toshiba Singapore when it involves corporate communications.

Now that they are opening a local office, we should be seeing more presence of Toshiba products as well as better support from the company.

For one, expect the Toshiba Thrive tablet to land in the Philippines real soon (we’re expecting to get our hands on one very soon).
