Traffic, what does it mean to you? If you are a blogger then traffic is your livelihood, without it your blog will not last. What you need to understand is traffic is what makes or breaks a blog and that is why doing everything you can to get traffic is essential to making sure your blog gets the following that it needs.

When it comes to getting traffic you need to go where the traffic already is, Google. Everybody uses Google, so why not use one of their own websites to help you get traffic? The two best websites that Google has in order to get traffic are Youtube.com and Blogger.com, for the sake of this article I am going to focus on Blogger to help you get traffic. The reason why Blogger is such a great way to get traffic is because they have a high page rank, lots of viewers each month, it will pass some link juice, and it is very easy to set and forget.

The first thing you need to understand is how to setup a Blogger blog to work the way that you want it to. What I always do is I build a 10 post blog about whatever the topic is that my website is on and then I interlink all the pages together. The trick here is to target 10 different keywords, my advice would be to target keywords with at least 1000 local monthly searches each. The reason why you want this much traffic is because not everyone will go to your site if it is found on the search engines and an even smaller amount of people will click on your link. Just remember that this strategy along with the following 4 tips will get you more free traffic in a short amount of time than you have ever thought possible.

Everybody knows that you need to promote your own site to get traffic but for some odd reason they think they don’t have to promote other blogs or Web 2.0 properties. Trust me, when it comes to getting traffic even Blogger blogs need to be promoted. What I do is I will write articles for article directories and other blogs and I will use 1 link for my Blogger blog and the other link for my actual website. Another thing you can do to promote the blog is to use social bookmarking, it is easy and if done right will actually get you a decent amount of traffic.

Have you ever gone to a website that didn’t have any pictures, videos, or anything other than text? Don’t you get tired of just reading? It has been proven that pictures and videos will keep a reader on your site roughly 37% longer and that is why you need them on your blog. Not only will pictures and videos keep your readers on the site longer but they will also make the site feel more lived in so that it doesn’t just look like it is there acting as a portal to your main site.

If you want to get the most traffic as possible then you need to keep adding content to your Blogger blog. I am not saying you need to write 1 new blog post every day but you at least need to add 1 new post each month. All you need to do is make it look like the site was not forgotten about because search engines dislike sites that never offer any new information.

Do you have more than 1 website that you want to promote? If you have a few websites then you don’t want to use the same Blogger blog for all your sites, build more blogs. People are always looking for a shortcut but when it comes to getting quality traffic there really aren’t any shortcuts.

Do yourself a favor, get out there and see for yourself how powerful this technique is while you are thinking about it. I am not saying that I am the best blogger out there and I know for a fact that I don’t get as much traffic as many other sites out there but I know what works and this is one of those methods.

If you have had experience with Blogger and it is sending you a decent amount of traffic then let us know about your experiences in the comments below.

19 August 2011 Last updated at 10:04 GMT To Let sign Rents are being driven higher by tenants whose home-owning ambitions have been thwarted Private rents in England and Wales rose to an average £705 per month in July, according to a survey by LSL Property Services, a firm of letting agents.

The increase of 0.6% last month was the sixth monthly increase in a row.

LSL said the continued rise meant average rents were now £29 a month higher than a year ago.

Rents have risen fastest in London, where they are now 7.1% higher than a year ago, at an average of £1,009 per month.

"Rents are on an upward trajectory, and it is unlikely that tenants will gain respite any time soon," said David Newnes, of LSL.

"Demand from thousands of frustrated buyers each month is underpinning buoyant competition for rental homes, enabling landlords to increase prices."

Bank of mum and dad

Mr Newnes said the phenomenon of parents providing a deposit for their adult children to buy a home was now spreading to the deposits required by landlords.

"As rents climbs, so does the size of the average deposit a new renter must find," he said.

"Thousands of new buyers each year rely on the bank of mum and dad to help fund a deposit.

"However, now it is becoming increasingly commonplace for renters to get parental help to fund their first deposit on a rental home, with the typical one-month deposit on a property in London more than £1,000."

Jonathan Moore, of Easyroommate, said tenants were caught in a vicious circle.

"First-time buyers cannot get mortgages, so demand for rented homes soars," he said.

"Rents shoot up, tenants find it even harder to save a deposit to buy, and rental demand strengthens further."

The rental website Citylets reported recently that in Scotland, average private rents had reached £663 a month in the second quarter of the year.

This was the highest level it had recorded since the third quarter of 2008 and was partly due to demand being boosted by people who could not buy a home instead.

House prices

The latest UK house price forecast is unlikely to cheer those looking to get on the property ladder.

The Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) said that it expected the price of the average home to fall in 2011, but then rise at an accelerating pace in the following years.

It predicted that a shortage of homes would push prices up by 2.4% in 2012, rising to a 4% increase in 2015.

"We forecast an average of 110,000 new homes to be built every year over the medium term," said CEBR economist Shehan Mohamed.

"This is significantly lower than the 225,000 homes that need to be created every year to keep pace with current housing needs, population growth and the trend towards reduced household sizes."

In the world of social media marketing, Facebook and Twitter dominate — but advertising on YouTube, LinkedIn and Foursquare is expected to increase in the coming year, according to research conducted at the May 2011 Pivot Conference.

Of the marketers surveyed, two-thirds were already participating in social media advertising, and 18% more planned to initiate campaigns in the next year. Success rates were nearly split down the middle, with 54% of those running ads reporting that they were satisfied with their social advertising activities.

Among survey respondents, 93% have deployed campaigns on Facebook, while 78% of respondents have advertised on Twitter.

The survey points toward an increase in advertising spend on YouTube, LinkedIn and Foursquare. At least 20% of respondents plan on deploying programs on those platforms in the next year.

It looks like a number of social platforms will be losing out on the advertising front in the coming year as well. More than 50% of advertisers responded that they have never — and do not plan to — run campaigns on MySpace, Meebo, Gowalla, Mylife and Tagged.

Despite the fact that a large number of advertisers surveyed have activated social campaigns, Facebook’s social advertising platform seems to be the only one that’s getting good ratings out of marketers. The above chart from eMarketer illustrates how ad offerings on social sites stack up against one another. Perhaps most surprising is the finding that only 22% of respondents believe that Foursquare’s ad offerings are “excellent” or “good.”

Regardless of the iffy feelings that marketers have toward current ad offerings on social platforms, this study indicates that marketers are ready to experiment with more social platforms beyond Facebook and Twitter.

What are your thoughts on social advertising? Which platforms does your company use and which does it plan to try in the coming year? Let us know in the comments below.
