Smart Gilas Pilipinas vs Jordan Game Result: 61-75.

Smart Gilas Pilipinas

Smart Gilas Pilipinas lost to Jordan Saturday, September24, during the semifinals of 2011 FIBA Asia championship held in Wuhan, China.

Smart Gilas has defeated this team last June 1 with score of 74-72, but this time that they face once again and it’s for the slot in the finals, Jordan was more determined to win.

Jordan will meet china in the FIBA Asia 2011 Finals while Smart Gilas Pilipinas will play against Korea for third place.

Since the Philippine team is already assured of 4th placement, this can be considered their best performance at the FIBA Asia Championship since 1987 in Bangkok when they finished fourth overall.

Team Philippines has been champion of the FIBA Asia Basketball Championship 5 times: 1960, 1963, 1967, 1973, and 1985. From 1960 to 2011, we rank 2nd to China.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has handed down the decision regarding the dispute between Sulit.com.ph and the owner of sulit.ph.

I wrote about the domain dispute (UDRP) back in June where the owners of popular classified ads site Sulit.com.ph wants to take control of sulit.ph.

A copy of the resolution was provided by Atty. Rod Vera (counsel to sulit.ph) which details the entire case.

The resolution went down on a technicality, including one very critical point — that the term “sulit” is a generic word and is also being used by a lot of other websites in their domains.

It’s also interesting to note that Sulit.com.ph offered to buy the domain sulit.ph for as much as $2,000 but after negotiations failed, they had to file for UDRP. Read the document above to fully appreciate the decision.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — An Aruban court on Wednesday rejected a Maryland businessman's attempt to reverse an order detaining him as a suspect in the presumed death of his travel companion in the Dutch Caribbean island.

The ruling from the three-judge panel means that Gary V. Giordano will have to remain in custody at least through the end of the 60-day investigative detention period imposed on Aug. 31.

"Of course he's very disappointed and sad about this decision," his attorney, Michael Lopez, said outside court.

Lopez had argued that authorities do not have enough evidence to detain Giordano as a suspect in the presumed death of Robyn Gardner, a 35-year-old woman from Frederick, Maryland, who traveled to Aruba with him for what was supposed to be a five-day trip.

Giordano, who is from Gaithersburg, Maryland, and owns a temporary staffing business, was arrested as he tried to leave the island on Aug. 5. Prosecutors have said they initially detained him because he gave inconsistent statements about Gardner's disappearance.

The prosecution has disclosed little of the evidence against Giordano but has said he was the beneficiary of a $1.5 million accidental death insurance policy he took out on her before their trip.

Giordano has told Aruban police that Gardner was apparently swept out to sea as they went snorkeling off the southern tip of the island. Authorities have searched the coastline near where she vanished and parts of the island but her body has not been found. Richard Forester, an on-again-off-again boyfriend of the missing woman, said Wednesday that he is trying to organize a new search effort.

Eboy Bautista, one of the world’s heaviest Biggest Loser contestants in history, was eliminated Monday (August 1) from the “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition.”

He was voted out by fellow Bigating Pinoys in the elimination ceremony after falling under the yellow line with former teammate Winwin.

Obviously bothered by an injury he got during the last challenge, the 33-year-old restaurant owner only managed to sweat out four pounds or 1.03 percent of his previous weight in his last weigh-in. He lost a total of 97 lbs. in his stay in the camp.

Although disappointed with his early finish in the competition, Eboy said he remains positive that he will be down to his ideal weight sooner or later.

“There was still so much to learn in the camp. But aside from getting ousted, I have no regrets. I had a total experience. From all the body aches to my hand accident, I wouldn’t trade those moments for anything,” he said.

Right now he is focused on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and even encouraging his friends and family to also have one. He wants to prove that nothing is impossible even with overweight people like him.

“I learned from Art that you can do things, especially exercise, if you just stop thinking and actually stand up and do it. Like our trainer Chinggay said, never say you can’t until you try. You are stronger that you think you are,” shared the camp’s resident funnyman.

As for his bet to win the title, Eboy said anyone has a fight to become the first Pinoy Biggest Loser. “After Alan left, I really felt I would be the one. Now, looking at those who were left, anyone can be the Biggest Loser,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the remaining Bigating Pinoy Andy, Angela, Art, Hazel, Larry, Leigh, Raffy, Ryan, and Winwin are now experiencing a different kind of training after being brought to a military camp.

There they get a taste of what Marines undergo to remain fit and discipline such as getting up and sleeping early, taking a bath in 100 counts, eating “Marine-style” and also rappelling.

From the get-go, some of them expressed resentment on the manner they are being treated by their “trainer” for the week, Staff Sgt. Pasco. According to Art, who experienced violence growing up, he doesn’t like being shouted and ordered upon. Larry, on the other hand, was excited to try on the drills he used to do as a former policeman.

Can the bigating Pinoy keep up with the pressure and discipline of a military training? Don’t miss the exciting big challenge this week with game master Derek Ramsay. Fighting for immunity in the coming weigh-in, all contestants are expected to give their all in the challenge
