This little conversation about the Google Nexus Prime I had yesterday with a telco guy was actually made in passing. We were all talking about the iPhone 5 and the slew of tablets that was announced in IFA last week and the topic just popped up.

I can’t really remember the exact words but here’s how it went (roughly):

YugaTech: “I think the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is going to be a fierce challenger to the iPad. I believe it will even force Apple to make their own 7-inch iPad too.”

Telco guy: “You know what’s even more cool? The Nexus Prime.

YugaTech: “Wait! What? You personally saw one?”

Telco guy: “Yup, it was shown to me. Really liked it a lot I didn’t even want to give it back.”

YugaTech: “No way! So, is it made by Samsung?”

Telco guy: “Yup! And it runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich too.”

YugaTech: “Damn! Samsung’s got a back to back with Google on the Nexus phone.”

Other telco guys on the table: “Wait, what’s that? Ateneo got back-to-back?”

And the conversation drifted off to many other topics.

First mention of the Google Nexus Prime was sometime back in June with BGR reported it.

ABS-CBN’s regular advertising revenues increased by 4% year-on-year due an upswing in its advertising minutes in prime time which makes up 75% of the company's total ad income. The big jump in prime time offset the decline in the daytime caused by week afternoon and noontime programs. The absence of Wowowee which was one of the main money makers last year was negligible thanks to the increased load in the late morning and evening slots.  However, counting non-recurring political advocacies advertising revenues experienced a decline of 24% from a year ago reaching only P8.8 billion.Net income attributable to shareholders for the first half of 2011 is at P1.7 billion, aided by a gain on sale of Sky Cable Philippine Depositary Receipts (PDRs) to the Singaporean company, STT Communications Ltd. Meanwhile, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) hit P4.0 billion. For the period January to June 2011, eighteen of the company’s primetime shows were in the Top 20 with fifteen occupying the Top 13 slots: Emil Cruz Jr.’s Mara Clara, 100 Days To Heaven, Pablo S. Gomez’s Mutya, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, Guns And Roses, Pilipinas Got Talent (Saturday and Sunday), Noah, Maalaala Mo Kaya, TV Patrol (Weekday), Imortal, Rated K Handa Na Ba Kayo?, Wansapanataym, Gandang Gabi Vice and Goin’ Bulilit.

The authorities has apprehended the companion of U.S. resident Robyn Gardner, 32, after she went missing following a snorkeling trip in Aruba last August 2.

The prime suspect is her 50-year-old companion Gary V. Giordano after his statements hinted some leads to the police who asked him a series of questions about the incident.

“Statements made by the traveling companion led to such questions that on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, it was decided to detain him for further questioning on the possible drowning of the woman,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.

Micheal Lopez, Giordano’s lawyer in Aruba, said his client should not be detained by the authorities.

“Our client emphatically denies being involved in any malicious act concerning his friend and consequently does not consider himself a suspect,” Lopez said in a statement.

Lopez further stated that Gardner and Giordano both entered Aruba from America and decided to go snorkeling in a shallow-water area called Baby Beach. However, the two Americans were soon pulled by a strong sea current which caused Giordano to tap on Gardner’s leg as a signal to swim back to shore.

However, when Giordano returned Gardner was not with him.

Lopez told the Associated Press that his client made an effort to search for Gardner through the waters before running to get help.

After the official search for the missing woman ended on Saturday, Giordano attempted to leave the island but was apprehended at the airport.

According to reports, Giordano and his first wife, Sharon Lynn Cohen, had a history of domestic disputes chronicled in Montgomery County Circuit Court records. Both Giordano and Cohen filed simultaneous protective orders against each other on Dec. 12, 2001.
