PRLog (Press Release) - May 15, 2012 -
OTR4U.com came about as a recurring suggestion from customers who had bought Old Time Radio shows previously. They wanted a subscription-based website which would provide them with old time radio and old time movie entertainment. To further enrich the customer’s experience, it was decided to include related articles, stories, and historical facts about the entertainment industry. As such, OTR4U.com is not merely a website where customers go to listen to old time radio shows alone. It will be a website more geared to be an enriching entertainment center. This holistic approach is the main theme when designing this website.

There are various subscription plans for www.otr4u.com to accommodate the different needs of the subscribers. In addition to the monthly ($6.50/mth) and yearly ($60/yr) subscription rates, the customers is also able to access a trial period plan ($3.00 for 10 days) before making a decision.

As a subscriber of www.otr4u.com , the customer is able to access at least 8 new old time radio shows per day, 4 new old time movies per week, a “This Day In History” section per day, a short story (titled 55-Worder) section per day, an article on the old time entertainment industry per week, and other old time entertainment related nuggets.  The necessary shows will be uploaded on a daily basis.  Sunday will be the only day during the week when no new material will be loaded to the website.  It is important to emphasize that none of the shows on the website infringe any copyrighted material.

To further reinforce the enriching experience of the subscriber, the previous 6 days worth of shows are accessible at any time. This will ensure that the subscriber will be able to catch up on any shows which s/he might have missed previously.

The old time radio shows will include shows from all the different genres – comedy, western, science fiction, horror, children, variety, mystery/detective, history, and many others. This variety attempts to accommodate the different tastes of the subscribers. The old time radio shows will also be “fine-tuned” for different occasions. For eg, Christmas shows during the Christmas season.

As stated before, there will be 3 new old time movies per week. The new movie on Monday (Monday Classic) will be a Western, Film Noir, Action, Mystery, or Thriller. The 2 new movies on Wednesday (Wacky Wednesday) will be a comedy and a cartoon. The movie on Friday (Freaky Friday) will be a horror or a science fiction movie. The movies will run for 7 days each and will be replaced at the end of the week with new ones.

Both the old time radio shows and the old time movies will have the functionality to be viewed live (livestream) or be downloaded for later enjoyment on the computer or portable devices like MP3/MP4 Players. This functionality further accommodates the differences in the needs of the subscribers.

In addition to the old time radio shows and old time movies, the subscriber will also enjoy a “This Day In History” section. This will highlight a certain historical occurrence for that particular date. Further, the story section, called the 55-Worder, will highlight a story told in 55 words. The “This Day In History” section and the 55-Worder are done on a daily basis. The “News – This And That” section is an article done on a weekly basis and is launched on Mondays. These articles will explore the old time radio and old time movie genres.

As a further enrichment of the entertainment experience of the subscribers, there are old time radio scripts which are easily accessible by the subscribers for their pleasure.

OTR4U.com is owned and operated by Frank D, who is an old time radio and old time movie buff himself and is greatly passionate of keeping this portion of the entertainment history alive by creating and operating this website. The subscription fees are actually used to offset the operating and administrative costs of running the website.  Please do not hesitate to contact Frank if you have any questions.  Any suggestion, recommendation, and queries are always welcome and can be forwarded to customerservice@otr4u.com. Alternatively, contact can be made by mail. The mailing address is P.O. Box 391263, Omaha, NE 68139.

20 March 2012 Last updated at 12:03 GMT  The movie John Carter has recorded one of the biggest losses in cinema history Walt Disney has said it expects to lose $200m (£126m) on its movie John Carter, making it one of the biggest flops in cinema history.

The film, about a military captain transported to Mars, could result in an $80-120m loss for Disney's movie business during the current quarter.

Disney shares were down almost 1% in early trading in New York.

The firm is still likely to make a substantial quarterly profit, though, thanks to its TV businesses.

It is estimated that John Carter cost $250m to make and it is likely that Disney spent another $100m on marketing.

Reviewing the film on BBC 5 Live, Mark Kermode said: "The story telling is incomprehensible, the characterisation is ludicrous, the story is two and a quarter hours long and it's a boring, boring, boring two and a quarter hours long."

The film's director, Pixar's Andrew Stanton, had previously had great success with films such as Finding Nemo and Wall-E.

The John Carter film is based on a series of books written by the author of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Mark Kermode reviews John Carter: "Boring, turgid, dull and plodding"

The series began with A Princess of Mars in 1912 and ended with John Carter of Mars, published after the author's death in 1964.

The film has taken no more than $184m at box offices worldwide, with cinema owners receiving about half of that total.

It is difficult to compare losses on films, as studios reveal little financial detail and allowances have to be made for inflation.

The Hollywood Reporter says that last year's biggest flop was Mars Needs Moms, which cost $150m to make and only took $39m at the box office.

Disney will be hoping for success from other big budget movies due for release later this year.

The list includes The Avengers, due to be released in May, and Brave, set to be released by Disney Pixar in June.

19 September 2011 Last updated at 15:46 GMT Screengrab of Qwikster homepage, BBC Qwikster will be the name for Netflix's DVD by post rental service Netflix has decided to split its DVD-by-post business from its movie streaming service.

The streaming service will keep the name Netflix but the postal DVD rental business will be renamed Qwikster.

The announcement comes two months after US firm Netflix bumped up the price of the combined renting and streaming service by 60%.

The price hike is thought to be behind the sharp drop in subscriber numbers Netflix has seen.

In July, Netflix reported that it had about 25 million subscribers. In an earnings report last week it said it now expected subscribers to number 24 million at the end of September.

The news caused shares in the firm to drop 19% which brought the total decline in its share price to almost 50% following the July price rise.

Netflix boss Reed Hastings took to the company's blog in a bid to calm the ongoing furore by explaining its reasoning behind the changes.

He said problems had arisen as Netflix evolved from the DVD rental business that spurred its initial growth to a company in which most of its customers were streaming movies via the web.

"...streaming and DVD by mail are becoming two quite different businesses, with very different cost structures, different benefits that need to be marketed differently, and we need to let each grow and operate independently," Mr Hastings wrote.

This was the reason it split DVD rental and streaming into separate businesses and charged for both, he said.

After the split, customers will be charged for each service they use and their bank and credit card statements will show separate payments. In addition, any feedback they give on good or bad movies via one service will not be mirrored on the other.

"Arrogance" based on past success meant the company neglected to keep its customers informed, he said.

"I messed up," he wrote. "I owe everyone an explanation."

The Next Female Pop Superstar is also being groomed to become a movie star.

We are talking about Star Power winner Angeline Quinto and her upcoming movie project with Star Cinema pairing him with no less than “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” star Coco Martin.

Yes, they are now filming the movie with working title “You Light Up My Life.”

It looks like Angeline Quinto is on track to become one of the Kapamilya Network’s biggest homegrown talents and many people believe she is going to be the next Sarah Geronimo. From a sold-out solo concert, best-selling album, product endorsements and now a movie in the works, Angeline is certainly one of the fastest-rising star of 2011.

Going back to the movie, Coco Martin is Angeline’s “ultimate crush” in showbiz. Instant chemistry was seen between the two when the former surprised Angeline in her “Patuloy Ang Pangarap” concert last July 15 at SM SkyDome. This is perhaps the reason why Star Cinema picked Angeline to become Coco’s leading lady in the film.

Too bad for the Cocojams or the fans who are clamoring for a Coco Martin and Maja Salvador tandem on the big screen. After the altercation between Coco Martin and Maja’s boyfriend Matteo Guidicelli over the weekend, the possibility of a Coco-Maja tandem is quite dim for now.

Kim Chiu is set to work with the Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos in the upcoming Star Cinema horror movie “The Healing.”

“The Healing” is the working title of Gov. Vilma Santos and Kim Chiu starrer to be helmed by Chito Roño. It’s a horror film about Filipinos strong belief in the power of alternative medicine like albularyos (Village Healer), Shamans, and mambabarang (witches).

In an interview by Showbiz News Ngayon, Vilma Santos whose last movie was “In My Life” in 2009 said she accepted the role for “The Healing” because she finds the concept fresh and something that she hasn’t done before.

“I find this something new, unang una sa story. First time akong gagawa nito plus the fact na I will be doing a movie with Kim Chiu. Definitely that is something very important. At this point in time, what is important is chemistry plus a good project, a good director,” she said.

Kim Chiu, on the other hand, is excited to star with the iconic actress.

“Masaya ako and excited ako. Something new din for me to do a horror movie under Star Cinema and to work with Governor Vilma Santos,” she told SNN.

“The Healing” is scheduled to be released on the first quarter of 2012 by Star Cinema.

According to reports, the film was supposed to be a Vilma Santos and Sharon Cuneta starrer but the Megastar was later replaced by Kim Chiu that’s why a little adjustment has been made in the story of the film.

Sharon had to decline the role because her schedule will not meet the timetable for the filming of “The Healing.” She has a daily show “The Biggest Loser: Pinoy Edition” and she’s also about to film her grand reunion movie with Gabby Concepcion and probably with their daughter KC Concepcion also.

Researchers identify the “Saddest Movie of All Time.”

According to science, “The Champ,” starring Jon Voight is the saddest movie ever made. The film is a 1979 remake, directed by Franco Zeffirelli, of the 1931 Academy Award-winning film of the same name which was directed by King Vidor.

In a study by psychology professors James Gross and Robert Levenson, the film has scientifically the most tearjerking scene of all – the guy dies in front of his son after winning the boxing trophy.

It turns out that it was necessary to use a movie clip to induce sadness. As CTV explains, due to so-called “ethics,” scientists are not technically allowed to “trick a subject into thinking something awful has happened in order to induce feelings of sadness.” Moviemakers, on the other hand, are actively encouraged to trick people into thinking awful things are happening, and psychologists can use the fruits of their labor to put together their own devious sadness experiments.

The final scene of 1978's The Champ produced the highest levels of sadness, much greater than any other emotion and higher than in movies like Kramer vs. Kramer and Bambi, according to the study.

You can watch the emotional scene below but be sure you have a tissue near by:
