Sony took the stage on Monday evening for their annual E3 press conference just hours after Microsoft revealed pricing and their lineup of games for the Xbox One. For Sony, the biggest question on everyone’s mind heading into the event was whether or not we would finally get to see what the PlayStation 4 hardware looks like.
I’ll go ahead and answer that question up front: we did.

Described as sleek and visually impactful wherever it’s placed, the PS4 features a contrasting flat black surface alongside a bit of gloss and appears to stand vertically or horizontally. It’s tough to accurately compare the two without them side-by-side but it looks much slimmer than the Xbox One.
With that said, here’s what else we learned about the PS4 today.
There are over 140 games in development, we’re told, with more than 100 being available within the first year. The PlayStation 4 won’t impose any restrictions on the use of used games – a huge jab at Microsoft that drew incredible applause from the crowd on hand. Just to be clear, gamers have the right to trade in games at retail, sell them to another person, lend them to a friend or keep them forever. This drew chants of “Sony! Sony!” from the crowd.
And to further put the nail in the coffin, Sony said there was no need for the console to be connected, you aren’t required to check in online and it won’t stop working if you haven’t authenticated within 24 hours. Perhaps best of all, the PlayStation 4 starts at just $399 – a full $100 cheaper than Microsoft’s Xbox One although Sony stopped short of announcing a solid release date.

Sony Pictures is working on an original programming plan with unique access to content via PlayStation Network and PS4. Content will be tailored and selected specifically for things that gamers want and love but again, the company stopped short of sharing any further details.
Sony’s Video Unlimited service will be available on day one with 150,000 of the latest television shows and movies and we also learned that Redbox Instant, pay-per-view events and Flixster will be headed to PS3, PS Vita and PS4 very soon.
These announcements, however, only paled in comparison to the real reason Sony was at E3: to showcase games for the PS4. The company said they have 30 brand new IPs for the PlayStation and wasted little time showcasing one of the new titles, The Order: 1886, from Sony Santa Monica Studios.

Other games high on Sony’s list that were shown briefly in video clips include Killzone: Shadow Fall, DriveClub, inFamous: Second Son and Knack – most of which we are already familiar with from Sony’s PS4 announcement back in February. Killzone, DriveClub and Knack will be PS4 launch titles while inFamous will show up during Q1 2014.
Developer Quantic Dream was next in line with a brief technical demonstration of a title called The Dark Sorcerer – or at least that’s what it appeared to be. Turns out, the “game” was all part of the tech demo and the sorcerer was just an actor in the game – clever. The full 12-minute demo will be available later this week during E3.

Sony spent some time highlighting indie game developers that they are welcoming to the PlayStation family including Tribute Games, Switchblade Monkeys, Young Horses, Klei Entertainment and 17-bit Games, just to name a few. Supergiant Games, creator of Bastion, was on hand to show a new game called Transistor that will debut on the PS4 early next year.
Square Enix showed off a new trailer for Final Fantasy XV in addition to one for Kingdom Hearts III in collaboration with Disney. Both games are coming to the PS4, we’re told, while Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is also coming to the PS3 and the PS4.
Conference-goers were treated to a world exclusive demo of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag played live on stage although the demo was cut short as the game eventually locked up, forcing Sony to end the demo early and usher in the next demo instead, Watch Dogs. Attendees were treated with several minutes of live game footage which looked extremely impressive and fast-paced. Fortunately this demo went off without a hitch.

PlayStation owners will receive an additional hour of gameplay for Watch Dogs and a special outfit for the protagonist when it launches.
Sports titles are huge on consoles and that’ll be no different with the PS4. Sony showcased footage from NBA 2K14 featuring some acting from Miami Heat star Lebron James talking to his in-game avatar. This demo was a bit shorter than anticipated, however, and was the only sporting game shown during the entire event.

A new partnership with Bethesda will see The Elder Scrolls: Online hit the PlayStation 4 during spring 2014. The game will feature a beta that will be available exclusively first on PS4, Sony said.
A world exclusive trailer for Mad Max was shown from Warner Bros Entertainment and Avalanche Studios. PlayStation gamers will have access to a special pack when the game launches. And if you haven’t already noticed, almost all of these titles were shown in very short clips so there really isn't much to go on.
PlayStation Plus membership will carry over to PlayStation 4, we learned. For less than $5 per month, Sony promises discounted games, cloud saves, automatic game updates, early access to beta programs, instant game collection and immersive multiplayer online for PS4 (does that mean you have to pay for multiplayer now?).
Bungie and Activision had one last thing to showcase – the world gameplay premiere of Destiny. It started with a single player on stage that was soon joined by another. But the live demo jitters weren’t over as Destiny also showed signs of freezing during the demo. It wasn’t as bad as Assassin’s Creed but it was embarrassing nevertheless.

million-dollars-a-month-softwaremillion-dollars-a-month-softwarePRLog (Press Release) - Mar 18, 2012 -
Don't you just LOVE those product pitches where the guy (in this case Bruce Kelly) tells you he 'doesn't need your money' and then goes on to try to SELL you the software.

Why would anyone who makes ZILLIONS of dollars each month with a software program sell it to you for less than fifty bucks?

Let me ask the question a different way...

If a product raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars, each month, for its creator why would he/she sell it to you at all -- let alone for such a small price tag?

Go ahead...think about it...I'll give you a few seconds...

Okay. Got the answer?

Well, if you answered:

A) Because he has such a good heart and wants to share his wealth with the world.

or

B) He is making so much money that he can't stand it and must give away his trade secret.

or

C) He is trying to end the recession all by himself.

You would be WRONG!

The ONLY reason that someone is selling a software program that makes hundreds of thousands of dollars each month is...

(wait for it...)

...BECAUSE IT DOES NOT WORK!

And they need to get the money from you by selling the software program.

19 September 2011 Last updated at 22:59 GMT By Ellie Stanton and Matt Danzico BBC News, Washington Online video content creators are now making significant amounts of money from a myriad of websites

Since the explosion of streaming video several years ago, hosting sites have become home to a crop of young video makers attracting devoted followings for everything from music and sketch comedy to make-up tips.

Meanwhile, online video has become a career for thousands of video creators, with some making hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

And in an uncertain job market, many are finding ways to cash in on the opportunities afforded by web video.

As online video viewership has grown - YouTube reportedly draws 500 million unique visitors each month - marketers hope to take advantage of the dedicated audiences and low barriers to entry.

Six-figure incomes

Video creators in turn are making money from hosting sites such as YouTube, DailyMotion and Blip.tv, which share a portion of the profits derived from video and banner advertisements.

YouTube, for one, has distributed millions of dollars in advertising revenue to its 20,000 most popular amateur producers since 2007.

A still from an episode of Annoying Orange on Blip.tv Blip.tv, which hosts the Annoying Orange comedy show describes its content as "the best in original web series"

"We share millions of dollars with our partners every year," said Tom Sly, the site's head of strategic partner development.

The amount advertisers pay varies with the popularity and quality of the videos, with creators receiving as much as $20 (£12.70) per thousand views.

"Across the board we're seeing those numbers increase as we see higher quality content and the ability to target users so that advertisers have more fine-grained control," Mr Sly said.

In 2010, the number of YouTube partners making over $1,000 (£600) per month from advertising revenue went up 300%, the company said.

The company declined to release specific figures, but Mr Sly said "hundreds" of video creators make more than $100,000 a year and "thousands" make more than $10,000 a year.

Sponsorship deals

The top performing web shows on Blip.tv are on target to take in more than $1m in advert revenue each, said Eric Mortensen, senior director of programming.

"There are certain class of people, and it's not that they are rejecting TV, they never even thought to be like TV in the first place," he said. "And because of that they are doing new and different things and that's how they end up making money."

Mike Michaud, who started online production company Channel Awesome after being losing a job at an electronics retailer, says the revenue he earns from host Blip.tv has enable him to hire six full-time and two part-time staff members.

"I don't have the daily grind that a nine-to-five usually entails," Mr Michaud said.

"I wouldn't say I'm living comfortably just yet, but I am living much better than before."

Industry analysts say that online video audiences are loyal and attentive and feel a connection to the creators.

In addition to advert revenue sharing, some video creators make as much as $150,000 a year by cutting sponsorship deals with major companies, said former YouTube executive George Strompolos, founder of Fullscreen, a start-up that aims to facilitate connections between corporate sponsors and video creators.

Aware of the power of recommendations from such seemingly personal relationships, companies like Ford, GE, and Lancome are directly reaching out to video makers to hawk their products.

Rocketboom's studios Rocketboom, which launched in 2004, was among the first US online programmes to make money

Online video creators work without the need for teams of agents, managers, markets and developers, Mr Strompolos said.

'Quit your job'

"Online video tends to be a one-stop shop solution," Mr Strompolos said.

"You get not only the creative development and the authenticity of voice you're looking for, but you also get distribution and reach."

As the online video advertising and merchandising infrastructures become more sophisticated, analysts say more and more people are likely to strike out on their own in web video.

"I see this becoming the new television, but a place where the average person has a much better chance of getting noticed and making money than if they were to go the traditional route via Hollywood," Mr Michaud said.

Alan Lastufka, author of YouTube: An Insider's Guide to Climbing the Charts, said: "The money may not always be headline-worthy, but it's enough to quit your day job, stay in the basement on your computer and spend your time connecting with fans."

A giant crocodile that measures around 21 feet or 6.4 meters long was captured along a creek by crocodile farm staff and residents in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur province in the Philippines on Saturday, September 2.

Captured alive, the giant crocodile weighs around 2,370 pounds or 1,075 kilograms.

According to the town Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde it took almost 100 people to place the reptile in a fenced cage. The mayor also said that they are planning to build an eco-tourism park for species found in a vast marshland in Agusan (an impoverished region about 515 miles southeast of Manila) featuring the giant crocodile.

The giant crocodile was first seen by local farm villagers killing a water buffalo (carabao) last month and was also suspected of having attacked a fisherman who went missing in July, according to reports.

After they spotted the giant reptile, villagers and members of the crocodile farm staff set four traps, which the giant crocodile destroyed. They then used sturdier traps using steel cables, one of which finally caught the giant crocodile late Saturday.

Happy Feet penguin, the Emperor penguin which was washed up on a beach near Wellington in New Zealand in mid-June and became a global sensation, was released back into the Southern Ocean on Sunday, September 5, to begin a long swim home to Antarctica.

Happy Feet penguin

Happy Feet weighs 27.5 kilograms (60.5 pounds). The penguin was released into the water from the New Zealand fisheries vessel Tangaroa near Campbell Island, about 700 kilometres (435 miles) south of New Zealand’s South Island.

His home in Antarctica is about 2,000 kilometres further south and it is expected he will join up with other emperor penguins on the long voyage.

The three-and-a-half-year-old Happy Feet had travelled south in a custom-made crate designed to keep him cold and comfortable during the voyage.

The penguin, named “Happy Feet” by the Wellington Zoo, has been living in New Zealand since June and it’s set to head back to the sub-Antarctic on August 29 in a specially designed cage aboard a research vessel.

The penguin will be released from the ship about four days out at sea, en route to its final destination.

“Happy Feet” has captured the hearts of New Zealanders and people across the world after it turned up on a beach some 2,500 miles from its home, only the second Emperor penguin known to have shown up in New Zealand ever.

There's plenty of uncertainty regarding the location and condition of Col. Moammar Gadhafi right now, but the information that is available has been summarized in a clever animated video.

Ah yes. Who needs to read long news reports when you can get caught up on an entire situation in a minute?

The video is brought to us by Taiwan's New Media Animation news crew — the folks who provided us with animated explainers of the WikiLeaks mess and the Charlie Sheen scandal — and as expected, it's a lighthearted take on a serious story:

comScore

Facebook is the third-most popular site for watching videos in the U.S., behind premium music video site VEVO at No. 2, and YouTube at No. 1.

The social network already leads as the No. 1 photo site in the United States, but the appetite for video continues to grow: 86 percent of the U.S. Internet audience watched online video in July, according to comScore, which shared the data from its Video Metrix report. The research firm said that 180 million U.S. Internet users watched online videos in July, for "an average of 18.5 hours per viewer."

All told, the "total U.S. Internet audience engaged in a record 6.9 billion viewing sessions." That's a lot of Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart clips on YouTube, but also a lot of home video of baby's first steps, wild wedding crashers and the dog really eating the homework on Facebook.

Facebook videos had 51.4 million viewers, comScore said, followed by Microsoft sites (which includes msnbc.com) with 49.5 million and Viacom Digital with 47.3 million.

In June, comScore ranked Facebook as #6 for online video, but the site has been at No. 3 before, last summer. Perhaps there's a summertime swing to Facebook's video audience, with some users having more time to spend on the site (students). Still, there's no question that online video is exploding in general.

"Total viewing sessions reached another all-time high in July at nearly 6.9 billion," with Google sites —which includes YouTube — "crossing the 3 billion mark to account for more than 40 percent of all viewing sessions online," comScore said.

Of those 18.5 hours of online video watched during the month by the "average viewer," Google sites accounted for 5.9 of those hours, followed by Hulu at 3.4 hours.

As for our attention span, it's better than might be expected: the length of the average online video was 5.3 minutes, comScore said, while the "average online video ad" was about 30 seconds. And while that's not long, it's long enough to irritate when you're in a hurry to see a video.

On August 28, 2011 a “celebration” is going to happen!

As a prelude to National Heroes Day, Choose Philippines, the world’s first ever social network where you can share and post your discoveries around the Philippines, will launch its music video “Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas” on “ASAP Rocks”, the top-rated variety show of ABS-CBN.

The Choose Philippines music video will features its theme song, “Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas” as sung by artists Angeline Quinto and Vince Bueno. The song was written by Robert Labayen, of “Bro Star ng Pasko” fame.

Choose Philippines (www.choosephils.com) aims to feature the undiscovered Philippines by showcasing travel destinations, regional cuisine, local culture and the colorful fiestas and festivals. There is also an active community page on Facebook that has gathered more than 220,500 “likes” in less than a year and still growing rapidly every day.

“Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas” is a reminder of the many reasons to be proud of the Philippines. The music video not only captures the vibrant colors of the islands but is also a call to action for every Filipino to proudly share the beauty of the Philippines to the world.

The website only went live last April 15 but it has already generated hundreds of photos and articles from Filipinos in various regions and from all over the world.

After their success in ABS-CBN’s 2011 Summer Station ID Jingle, Angeline Quinto and Vincent Bueno are once again reunited for the Choose Philippines theme song.

Only 21, Angeline Quinto exemplifies the Filipino penchant for hard work and overcoming adversity. The perseverance of “Star Power: The Search for the Next Pop Superstar” grand winner is definitely paying off. Angeline just returned from her US Tour with Sharon Cuneta and had her solo concert at the SM Sky Dome.

Vince Bueno is the face of a new generation of Pinoys who are born and raised overseas yet have decided to rediscover their roots in their homeland. Born in Vienna, Vince made a name for himself in Austria by being the grand champion of “Musical! Die Show!” yet chose to continue his career here in the Philippines.

The lyrics for “Piliin Mo…” were written by Robert Labayen, the vice president of ABS-CBN’s Creative Communications Management (CCM). He is the man behind many Station IDs, the most recent being the “BidaBest sa Tag-Araw” 2011 Summer ID as well many memorable advertising campaigns.

Choose Philippines is all about going out there, discover new things and have fun while doing it!

Choose Philippines is encouraging Filipino residents and our foreign visitors to register on the website (it’s easy and it’s FREE!) and share their experiences.

We would love to hear about their travels, adventures and misadventures in their very own words: Where did they go? What can we expect (scary insects, tidal waves, the best places to eat, etc)? What do we need to bring (sandals instead of shoes, anti-mosquito lotion, etc)? How to get there and how much? Also a bit of trivia and local flavor about the place would be fantastic!

We also invite Choose Philippines users to email us their beautiful photos (high-resolution would be best!) and a short “caption-like” article about these images.

Story and photo contributions can be emailed to choosephils@gmail.com.

In "Skyrim," the dragons are so awe inspiring they'll give you contractions.

A lot of people are excited about the forthcoming medieval role-playing game "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim." But it seems none more so than expectant mom Stevi.

Stevi and her fiancé Chaz were attending the QuakeCon 2011 game conference in Dallas Friday and were among the packed crowd on hand to see the 40-minute demonstration of "Skyrim" (which launches Nov. 11.) That's when Stevi went into labor.

As Chaz told Game Informer:

During the demo Todd Howard (director for "Skyrim") showed off the Frost Dragon. This is what started the whole thing, seeing this must have filled Stevi with so much excitement that it sent her into labor.

As it turns out, the couple did not bolt for the hospital. Instead, they stayed on through the rest of the demonstration.

Yes, some know-it-alls have written in to Game Informer to criticize Stevi and Chaz' decision to stay. But Chaz has written in to explain that they stayed for the rest of the demo not only because Stevi loves Skyrim, but because they thought it could have been false labor.

By the way, that is not an unreasonable thing to think. Just because a woman goes into labor, doesn't mean the baby is going to pop out then and there. In fact, as of Sunday, Stevi was still in labor. The whole process was taking so long she had time to write in to Game Informer to explain to readers that her baby's due date is actually not until Sept. 10.

"I saw the frost dragon and had a contraction, been consistent ever since. We are now at 15 minutes apart and the pain is getting worse," she wrote on Sunday. But she also explained, "The doctor said this could take 'several hours or days even.'"

One thing is for sure, QuakeCon is proving to be one very important event for this couple. The two gamers got engaged last year at QuakeCon. Chaz proposed to Stevi onstage at the end of the show. The two had planned to get hitched at this year's QuakeCon ... but yeah, they got a little distracted.

Here's betting their daughter makes her first appearance at the show next year. Yes, they are having a girl and they've already picked a name for her: Atari Lynn.

Surprisingly, no, it seems she was not named after the game machine or game brand.

Explained the laboring mother: "The name Atari comes from the name Ataru which means 'to hit a target' and the word Atari is used when a prediction has come true or someone has won the lottery. Her first and middle name together mean 'To hit a target, from the lake'.

(Thanks to Game Informer for the heads up.)
