Apple

For one day only, today, you can walk away with a new iPhone 3GS for free when you sign up for a two-year contract with AT&T at Best Buy.

An anonymous tipster sent a photo of a promotional sign to TechnoBuffalo that shows such a deal and calls to Best Buy confirmed it. So if you've wanted to dip your toes into the Apple iPhone, now may be the time. Of course, the iPhone 5 is imminent, if you believe the rumors, and the iPhone 4 is already everywhere, but if you're ok with being just a little behind the curve and being locked into two years with AT&T, this may be a deal for you.

If you don't buy today at Best Buy, you can still find a good deal, though it won't be free. A new iPhone 3GS will normally cost you $49 with a two-year AT&T contract, while an iPhone 4 will run you at least $199.

According to former Senator Jovito Salonga, Ninoy Aquino was the greatest president we never had.

And it’s true. As we are celebrating Ninoy’s 28th death anniversary today, August 21, we will remember once more what he did to restore democracy in our country.

This year, his son Noynoy Aquino through presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda in a statement said: “May the Filipino people never forget him and the many others who fought for the restoration of our democracy, and may future generations continue to hold dear the example Ninoy Aquino set for us through his life, his struggles, and his sacrifice.”

Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr.(November 27, 1932 – August 21, 1983) was a Filipino Senator and a former Governor of Tarlac. Together with Gerry Roxas and Jovito Salonga, they formed the leadership of the opposition to the Marcos regime in the years leading to the imposition of martial law in the Philippines.

In 1973 he was arrested and incarcerated for 7 years, but was allowed to depart for the United States to seek medical treatment after he suffered a heart attack in 1980.

In 1983, Aquino met his demise at the Manila International Airport when he returned to the Philippines despite threat that he will be assassinated. This courageous act has awakened the political awareness of Filipinos to fight for freedom against the dictatorship of Ferdinand E. Marcos. Millions lined up the streets to pay their last respect to Ninoy.

Inspired by the heroic act of Ninoy, the Filipinos came in full force on February 25, 1986 to end the dictatorship of Marcos once and for all. Dubbed as the “People Power Revolution,” it was recognized as a worldwide phenomenon that inspired other countries as well.

Manila International Airport has been renamed Ninoy Aquino International Airport in his honor. The anniversary of his death is a national holiday in the Philippines, now known as the Ninoy Aquino Day.

Will we see the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 tonight at the #BB7FanNight event?

Keep checking BlackBerry's official tweets today, because it's teasing with promises of rolling out tonight devices with Research In Motion's newest smartphone OS, BlackBerry 7.

VentureBeat is one of many outlets that caught this tweet last night: "You got it! New #BlackBerry devices are coming w/ our new OS, BlackBerry 7! Check back tmrw 4 deets on #BB7FanNight. ^CH"

This "event" will try to rally BlackBerry's core base in a market that's become a two-horse race between Google and Apple.

BlackBerry's U.S. sales have lagged behind the upstart Android handsets and the perennially popular iPhones with reports that Apple sold 20.3 million iPhones from April to June, while RIM sold 13.2 million BlackBerrys from March to May. In a few years, it may even take a back seat to Microsoft's slow-launching Windows Phone, according to some reports. (Msnbc.com is a joint venture of Microsoft and NBC Universal.)

Some followers are also skeptical: "Interested in what RIM is planning to announce for #BB7FanNight. They really need a game-changer here..."

Game-changer is right. RIM is against the ropes, with yesterday's "Cost Optimization Program" announcement of 2,000 job cuts and executive shuffles, and a tablet that has yet to turn the tide for the struggling company.

Still, BlackBerry users are a loyal lot, and eager to see what's next. Like this user: "Anxiously waiting the @BlackBerry announcement 4 today. Hoping its the release date for the Bold 9900 #TeamBlackBerry." Or this one: "Can't wait to see what we have #BB7FanNight we been waiting for long the wait is over @BlackBerry."

Per VentureBeat, expectations point to an updated BlackBerry Torch and/or a new BlackBerry Bold Touch (9900/9930), with swiping and zooming capabilities on the touchscreen, as well as a better browser.

Research in Motion's last big hurrah was in May, when it revealed the new BlackBerry Bold (which we hope to see tonight), the BlackBerry 7 OS and a Facebook app for its PlayBook tablet.
