Huling Patak Ulat ni Luchi Cruz-Valdes on DOKYU5 airs this Sunday (August 28) on TV5.

An archipelago, the Philippines is surrounded by bodies of water. Yet, by 2025, experts predict a severe water shortage in the country. The rapid increase in population, urbanization and industrialization has reduced the quantity and affected the quality of Philippine waters.

Today, the signs of the imminent crisis are palpable. Access to clean and adequate water is an acute seasonable problem in urban and coastal areas. Only 36% of the country’s river systems are classified as sources of public water supply; up to 58% of groundwater sampled by government agents is contaminated with coliform and needs treatment; and 31% of diseases monitored over a five-year period are due to water-borne sources.

“Huling Patak,” a one-hour documentary to be aired nationwide on TV5 and Aksyon TV Channel 41, presents the state of water resources in the Philippines and the looming crisis.

Based on the compelling stories of six localities – Tawi Tawi, Davao, Camarines Sur, Quezon, Antipolo, and Metro Manila — and accounts of people living in the cusps of danger due to lack or absence of potable water – NEWS5 chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes weaves a story of decades of neglect and abuse of a resource more important than oil. Luchi explores the whys and wherefores of an impending disaster as well as the risks faced by Filipinos as we live with life threatening water scarcity.

Together with experts and examples of best practices that ensure sustained and efficient delivery of safe, clean water despite very limited resources, Luchi tells a story of doom and despair, and a promise that every Filipino can do something to avert a looming crisis. This special DOKYU5 presentation aims to tell them how.

“Huling Patak” airs this Sunday (August 28) at 10:30pm on TV5 with simulcast airing over Aksyon TV (Channel 41 in Mega Manila, Channel 29 in Metro Cebu and Davao, Channel 1 on Cignal Digital TV and Channel 59 on Sky Cable).

Check out the official movie poster and trailer for the 2011 remake of the dance movie classic “Footloose.”

“Footloose” (2011) stars Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough in the lead. Also starring are Dennis Quaid, Miles Teller and is directed by Craig Brewer.

Synopsis: Writer/Director Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow,” “Black Snake Moan”) delivers a new take of the beloved 1984 classic film, “Footloose.” Ren MacCormack (played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont’s local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister’s troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.

Footloose is set to open in theaters on October 14, 2011.

Three Academy Award-nominated actors make Millenium Films’ new psychological thriller “Trust” an A-List affair.

Starring Clive Owen (“Closer”), Catherine Keener (“Capote”) and Viola Davis (“Doubt”), the critically acclaimed film on the dangers of Internet relationships will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinona) starting Sept. 7.

When Annie, a 14-year-old girl, is seduced by a 41-year-old internet predator she knows only as “Charlie,” it tears apart her family. While her father, Will (Owen) becomes obsessed with revenge fantasies, Annie enters therapy, where she refuses to admit she’s been victimized.

“It was a hugely impressive script, beautifully written,” admires Owen. “I have two daughters so I could relate to this father’s angst and found the script to be very uncompromising in how it explains one of the big topics of modern lives—children and the Internet and how they relate.”

Adds the actor, “The Internet has gathered pace so quickly that we’re still grappling with the boundaries of it. The computer is in everyone’s homes and there are dangers to that with children. For example, you can’t blame a child for having curiosity, and now all they have to do is ‘google’ on the computer and they can see things that might not be appropriate without their parents even realizing it.”

Catherine Keener, nominated twice for an Academy Award®, plays the mother, Lynn. “When I read the script, I was expecting something good,” admits Keener. “I just didn’t realize how powerful it was. It was very thought-provoking and completely upsetting. The script shows the Internet in a certain way which we haven’t yet fully explored in movies.

“This is an artistic and stand-on-its-own movie, but it also has some guts socially which audiences will understand,” continues Keener. “This movie talks about being aware and knowing as much as you can in protecting your kids. If this movie can cause a little action, a little advocacy, then I think this knowledge is power.”

Another bit of stellar casting was landing last year’s Academy Award®-nominee Viola Davis in the key role of the therapist, Gail Friedman. Davis, who winged in for three days to play the part of the therapist at the beginning of the 29-day shoot, confesses, “This script opened my heart because it humanized a subject that is not portrayed much in the media.”

“The subject of rape and the Internet has been desensitized,” explains Davis, “but this script gave me compassion for the women and teenagers who have been victimized so I wanted to be a part of this movie– help bring awareness to what is happening in our world today.”

Davis concludes, “This movie is a great example of a young girl, so seemingly outwardly secure, but inwardly she’s searching for herself, searching for her place, and then she meets up with the wrong person through the Internet. You see how the deadly combination spirals out of control and how it’s too much for someone who isn’t mature enough to handle it. I hope audiences walk away with the repercussions of what happened to this girl and her family because they weren’t vigilant and aware of the perils of the Internet.”

Chef Fernando “Ferns” Aracama, one of the critics of Junior MasterChef says he’s “ready to be wowed” by the dishes the kiddie cooks will prepare on ABS-CBN’s newest cooking reality show.

Television viewers feasted on ABS-CBN’s newest kiddie cooking reality show “Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition” as its enticing primer “The Appetizer” ruled the national primetime ratings last Saturday (August 20) with 22.9 percent, compared to only 14.0 percent of GMA7’s “Manny Many Prizes,” according to Kantar Media.

In the delightful primer, host Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo introduced the 60 impressive amateur chefs from all over the country, and the three revered chef critics, including Chef Fernando “Ferns” Aracama.

Chef Ferns, who hails from Bacolod, says he’s “ready to be wowed” by the dishes the kiddie cooks will prepare.

“If I had a similar opportunity when I was younger, I would sign up for this without batting an eyelash,” he says.

With almost 30 years in the profession, “The Maestro” gladly admits he started as a “saling-pusa” in the kitchen, assisting his parents in mixing and stir-frying food.

Cooking fascinated Chef Ferns when he was still six years old when he saw his father expertly making his way around the kitchen. Young and inquisitive, he already displayed utter interest and skill that would soon make him a great chef.

“To see a male figure in the kitchen was an affirmation that guys can also do the same thing. I had a small notebook when I was twelve; I was converting recipes, writing conversion from cups to table spoons,” he recounts.

“The Maestro” reveals that he was trained to be a scientist in high school. All this changed when he got accepted to the University of the Philippines’ Hotel & Restaurant Administration program, which had cooking classes that rekindled his “love affair” with culinary arts.

Later he gained training at the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, USA where he received his Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts in 1993.

He currently owns and serves as Executive Chef in several Manila-based restaurants in Manila.

Because of his expertise in the field, Chef Ferns has judged in various local culinary competitions, and represented the country as member of the Philippine National Culinary Team. He’s also an active committee member of Les Toques Blanches, the premier chefs’ association of the Philippines.

Get to know the 60 young kitchen stars and find out who will advance to the Top 20 on the premiere of “Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition” on Saturday (August 27), 6:45 PM after “Wansapanataym” on ABS-CBN. Carburetors

Carburetors have been around almost as long as the car itself. Its functionality can be explained as a device that delivers the correct amount of fuel to the engine according to the air that is forced through the engine by atmospheric pressure. The initial cost of a carburetor engine is almost five times cheaper than an electronic fuel injected one, although maintenance costs could perhaps set one back a bit. The clear advantage of a carburetor engine is that it is not restricted by how much gas is pumped from the fuel tank. This means that any modifications to the cam in an attempt to make the engine "breathe better" will allow the cylinders to pull more fuel through the carburetor resulting in a more dense explosive mixture in the combustion chamber. The end result… unrivaled power!

The carburetor does, however, come with a host of disadvantages. Firstly, with the way the world is moving toward lower gas emissions, driving a car with a carburetor engine may get you locked up in certain countries. Secondly, fuel economy is definitely not something that you can expect from your standard carburetor. You would have to almost indefinitely be tuning your carburetor engine to offset changing weather and atmospheric conditions. Finally, with the current unpredictable fluctuations in gas prices worldwide, maintaining a carburetor engine would eventually only be an option for car enthusiasts who are not adversely affected by erratic world markets.

Fuel Injection

Direct Fuel Injection Engine

Direct Fuel Injection – This type of fuel injection is the latest in fuel injection technology common in the more recent two and four stroke petrol engines. Similar to diesel engines, fuel is injected via a common rail line directly into the cylinder. The cost of this type of fuel injection system is comparatively higher as a result of the custom cylinder head configuration and the fairly sophisticated injector used. Fuel efficiency, high power output and lower gas emissions are clear advantages of direct fuel injection. The fuel requirements and injection timings can be precisely controlled according to the load conditions. Engine speed determined by Ignition timing and fuel injection functionality is carefully controlled by the EMS (engine control unit).

Port Fuel Injection – This is perhaps the most common type of fuel injection system found worldwide. Fuel is injected at each intake Port Fuel Injection (4)port usually located at the cylinder head and intake manifold. The inherent design of this type of fuel-injection system allows for quite a bit of flexibility in intake-manifold design. The improved engine-breathing in this regard allows for super- and turbo-charging modifications to be exceptionally feasible.

Throttle Body Injection – Throttle body injection is the closest in design to a normal carbureted engine. The fuel injector nozzles inject fuel above the throttle blades. The fuel and air mixture is then carried through the intake tract to the combustion chamber. These injection systems were more commonly found in the 1980 to 1995 timeframe. The greatest advantage of this system was that it was comparatively low cost and many of the supporting components such as the intake manifold, air filter, and fuel line routing which could be reused.

Conclusion

It’s clear that steps being made in the development of fuel injection systems are paving the way for enhanced performance, reduced fuel emissions, and enhanced engine reliability. However, for the diehard carburetor fanatic who cannot substitute for the power high and maximum power output thrill that only a carburetor engine can offer, I fully empathize.

I haven’t used Microsoft Office in months because I now only use Google Docs for my document needs. It’s convenient because I can access my documents anywhere I go and it’s easy for me to share my work with friends, classmates, and clients. Unfortunately, whether I’m on my laptop or iPad, there needs to be an Internet connection in order for me to access my documents. So what happens if I’m in a place with no Internet connection? It becomes a problem because there’s just no way to access my documents.

This is where a tool for backing up your documents for offline use really comes in handy. Whether there is an Internet connection or not, your documents are still accessible. Therefore, these 3 tools listed are great productivity boosters and make Google Apps the obvious choice for creating creating and saving documents of all kinds.

Everyone tells you to have a niche; you can’t make money with out a niche. So how do you choose? What all do you need to do for finding a  niche that you’re going to love, that draws traffic and turns out to be profitable?

Well, first off, any niche CAN be profitable. That doesn’t mean it will be, but if you’re passionate about crocheting miniature kittens and you love it enough to write about it several times per week, then it’s likely there are others who love the same thing. However, you can monetize your site with a bit more than just miniature kittens. There’s a ton of things you can promote that relate to crocheting itself. You can even write your own ebooks to sell. They can be step by step on how to make miniature kittens.

Some people want to get into niche marketing for the money making aspects. They may not have true passion on the topic, but they like it well enough to spend time working on it. Sometimes it’s hard to decide which niche to pick. All the big ones, like making money, health and fitness, and affiliate marketing seem to be hard to break into–but not impossible. It appears that dog training and potty training are always used as examples, so they may have grown from that as well.

You need to have a niche that you do care about. If you don’t care or have some personal involvement in the niche, it’s likely you will not do it justice or give up too soon before it starts pulling in money. With so many get rich quick scams and reports of making a six figure income in six months out there, it’s easy to get discouraged if you don’t see some income immediately. You need to remember that marketing may be a job but it’s not like a regular job–you don’t get a paycheck every week. You have to work and create your own income and that takes time.

Finding a niche that hits the jackpot for you isn’t always easy. In fact you may have several ideas or several things that you really enjoy. That makes it hard to focus most of your attention on one thing, but that’s a key to being successful in a niche. Work hard at one, start getting traffic and income before you start working on another.

It also takes a lot of work to research once you decide on a niche. You need to know how many monthly searches are being done, who the competition is, are there any good affiliate programs, what topics will you cover. All of this needs to be done before you even start. Where do you even begin with all of that?

There is an easy solution. I’ve found a site that does most of the research for you. In fact, I purchased one of these packs myself for a niche I wanted to work with. Not only is the keyword research done for you, but a ton of other stuff and a step by step daily guide to help you get up and running. It truly makes niche research easy as pie.

If you’re considering niche marketing or just need some extra research if you’re already doing it, check out these niche research packs.

Niche marketing can be fun and rewarding, but you need to do some homework before deciding if it’s right for you.

Do you have any tips you’d like to share for finding a niche? Did you have any struggles before you found the right one for you? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

I’m always creating new web sites and blogs, and one of the most important features when creating a site, is to have a great looking logo. I’ve used a lot of different designers and services, and the majority of them end up disappointing me! From low end, to high end and pricey… I’ve seen it all. I recently ordered two logo designs from Ink’d, which run a few hundred bucks each, and I was really disappointed with the drafts and concepts. I even ordered a few logos through Fiverr, just to see what type of designs I would get, and they were all pretty horrible. But for $5 a design, it’s what I expected.

I then stumbled across a design site called LogoNerds, and their portfolio and prices were pretty decent. I needed a logo designed for my new blog at FlippaTips.com, and already tried out a bunch of other services, so I figured why not try these guys out and see what they can do.

They don’t have the most advanced and fancy looking web site around, but don’t let that fool you. Click on portfolio and you can look through some of the designs they’ve created, or click on Order and you can view the different packages they have available. I went with the $47 “Professional Business Logo” package. After completing their questionnaire about how I would like to have the logo designed (concept, colors etc..). Within a few days I heard back from LogoNerds and had a few design concepts to look over.

I was quite happy with the first set of logos sent over, and went ahead to pick concept #4 (top right). If I had any ideas or changes for the logos, I would let LogoNerds know and they would make any necessary changes and get back to me with the updates. Since the design for FlippaTips.com is clean and simple, I was looking for the same in the logo design.

You can see the full FlippaTips.com blog design below, with the perfect matching logo as well. Be sure to visit the web site and read my articles on buying and selling web sites.

If you have a web site that you would like to have a logo created for, I definitely recommend trying out LogoNerds. Not only are they well priced, but they have a great customer support team. After going through many other design companies, I will definitely be using LogoNerds again. Use coupon code B10OFF to save $10 off your $47 purchase, that’s over 20% off!
