Globe’s CloudFone Ice is a Huawei U8500

Saw this newspaper ad by Globe this afternoon and found two unfamiliar handsets being featured, one of which is a very affordable Android phone called CloudFone Ice.

Alongside it is another qwerty handset named CloudFine Temptation.

I’m not very familiar with the name of the handset and not sure if this is a new offering but based on the comments and emails sent to me today, it looks like a new one.

I quick search on the CloudFone directed me to a page on GSMArena identifying it as the Huawei U8500. Now that phone sounds familiar to me as I’ve seen it at CommunicAsia 2011 back in June (just did not bother tinkering a lot with it since it’s an entry-level phone).

The Huawei U8500 has a 3.2? display (320×480 pixels) running on Android 2.1 (there’s Froyo 2.2 update available here) and has WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G/HSDPA, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and 3.15MP camera with up to 32GB storage via microSD card.

No details on the processor, internal storage or RAM but considering this is an entry-level handset, don’t expect something above-average.

Globe offers the CloudFone Ice free with Plan 499 or only Php4,990 on a prepaid kit. Nevertheless, it’s pretty much one of the most affordable Android phone in the market now (along with the Cherry Mobile Eclipse 2.2 and the Alcatel OneTouch Duo 890D).
